About This Blog

On the 13th of October myself, and my good pal Michael Nelson, will be embarking on a journey starting in Europe, across into Asia, and eventually south to Australia.

Hopefully this blog will allow us to show our family and friends what we see along the way.

Enjoy.

Indonesia

So our last stop before hitting Oz, we had 3 weeks to try and see as much of Indonesia as possible.

First place was Mt Bromo, after a cock up on my part we didn't realise it was erupting, so couldn't go hiking. But this did mean we could go see it erupting, which in my opinion was probably a better spectacle.

It was a very odd place to spend the night in, as the whole town, based around Bromo was completely covered in ash from the recent eruptions. Surreal.

The next day we headed to Mt Ijen, further east on java. The crater has huge sulphur clouds which rise high into the sky. Indonesia guys earn money by carrying out sulphur out from the crater, which weigh around 60-80kg. Real back-breaking work...

I was tired just walking up the steep hills to reach the crater...

A full view of what the crater looked like.

We then headed to beautiful islands of Lombok and Gilis. Where we tried and failed to surf. I won't include any pictures of this to save us embarassment.

Gili Air, with a view of the mountains on Lombok in the distance.

We also did an awesome snorkling trip around the islands, run by our trusty guide Wang. Chilled out entertainer...

During the trip we also saw quite a few turtles.. Sweeetttttttt!

Roll on kangeroos and convicts...
